October 2024 WHAT KIND OF FLOORING IS BEST FOR SOUTH FLORIDA???
The type of flooring that you put in your home is possibly the single most important decsion you can make as a homeowner in South Florida. At Jacks the Handyman of Cooper City, not only will we install flooring, but we will also educate on the best material for your home. Aesthetics obviously matter, but functionality should be first on the list, and is it durable enough for our elements and what the traffic will look like.
For example, hardwood is great and looks beautiful. However with our climate, and also our exposure to humidity and flooding, hardwood simply cannot survive a major accident. That being said, if laid properly with a subfloor or glue, it is by far one of the nicest looking floor materials on the market.
Vinyl or laminate flooring is very popular. This is manufactured flooring that is resistant to pretty much any element that touches it. Our handyman floor experts will make sure the subfloor is prepped and laid so that the flooring can go on top of it. Preparation is paramount when laying this type of material. Also design and layout will play a big part in this as well.
We can't leave out tile. Tile is the number one flooring material used in South Florida. Dependable and beautiful, there are now so many colors and textures to choose from, the end result tends to look like anything you wish it to. Jacks the Handyman floor experts are here to recommend layout and design and make sure colors and textures match your home.
No matter the material, do your homework, and do it with a flooring expert at Jacks the Handyman of Cooper City. Call us today at (954) 953-4971 for a free floor estimate!

Choosing the right material is tricky. Put your trust in Jacks the Handyman of Cooper City, FL. Jacks will come out and go a diagnosis of the property and give you many options to choose from. August 2024 WHY A HANDYMAN???
Why use a handyman? And what is different about using a contractor than using a handyman? That is a very good question. General Contractors are great! Most know how to build an entire house from the slab all the way to the roof. Being a contractor also means knowing who to put where. Meaning that a contractor will most likley hire different people to perform different work on a house. He will hire electricians to do electric, plumbers to do plumbing, drywall specialists to install drywall, roofers to lay the roof, etc. He is "contracting" the work out to these other specialists. This is great for new construction. Once the house is built, it is a little different. Hiring a contractor to hire a specialist for a repair in your home is a bit out of the ordinary. You won't get to know either person very well. And it will probably be the first and last time you need that specialist. Having a handyman you TRUST is valuable. A handyman you know and trust will treat your home like his/her own. That is our motto at Jacks the Handyman of Cooper City. JUNE 2024 BROKEN KITCHEN TILE | FIX OR REMODEL?
Jacks the Handyman of Cooper City (and serving all neighboring cities such as Pembroke Pines, Southwest Ranches, and Weston, FL) is here to give you all the home maintenance tips!
Broken floor tiles can be a NIGHTMARE! How can you tell a floor tile is on the way to cracking or fracturing? Walking on it might sound like a small "pop". If you knock on it with your knuckle, it will sound hollow, like there is space between the tile and the concrete below it. And indeed, there most likely is!
Floor tiles can crack or fracture for a number of reasons. Basic wear and tear, dropping something heavy on them, or improper installation. Also, over time, the "mud" or cement that holds the tile to the floor below it can dislodge from the tile itself, allowing air to seep inbetween the tile and the mud. Air pockets create a place for the tile to "buckle" from weight above such as walking on it, and then the tile simply cracks. The picture above depicts this perfectly.
The issue with cracked floor tile is usually matching it. What is popular and trendy today in floor remodeling, was not popular 10 or 20 years ago. So finding that tile that exactly matches is almost impossible. A decision must be made. Do you replace the entire surface with new tile, OR, create a design that fits with the room with a different tile in that place and possibly a few more places around the room.
Whichever you choose, new tile can be prepped and put into place, and new grout added to either that area or the whole floor giving a brand new look to the room.
Jacks the Handyman of Broward County (Cooper City, Pembroke Pines, Hollywood, Dania Beach, Plantation, Sunrise, Weston, Southwest Ranches, Davie, Fort Lauderdale, and all Broward towns and cities) floor experts can take care of any floor problem you might have. Any redesign, repair, or remodel. Call us at (954) 953-4971 and get a FREE estimate today!
MAY 2024 REPAIRING AND PATCHING DRYWALL
Most homeowner's at some point, will attempt to patch their own drywall. Some get it right, others realize that this is much trickier than it looks.
But, if you're one of those that love to DIY, we got you. Jacks the Handyman of Cooper City is here to give you some guidance.
You will need some tools for the drywall patch. First you will need medium grit sandpaper. You will also need a putty knife, compound (drywall mud or DAP mud), a patch screen (if the hole is larger that an inch), paper towels or a work towel, paint primer, and finally paint.
First the area must be prepped correctly. Using medium grit sandpaper, smooth the area and remove any excess old paint or anchors that might be in the wall. Wipe away any dust and ensure that the wall is smooth.
Apply compound with the putty knife. Apply several layers and smooth out as best as you can. There are some putty products that are color coded and will actually turn color once they are dry.
Once the putty is dry (this can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours depending on how thick the puddy needed to be over the hole), use the same sandpaper and smooth the puddy to become flush with the existing wall.
Once the repaired area is smoothed and flush, paint with primer and let dry.
Finally apply new paint. It is best to paint the entire wall where the drywall was repaired. At least to the next corner of the wall adjacent to the patch wall.
Good luck on your drywall repair, and remember to call Jacks the Handyman at (954)953-4971 for any and all of your home repair needs!
